Item Prevalencia de hipotiroidismo en embarazadas que acudieron a la Fundación Pablo Jaramillo Crespo, periodo 2019-2021(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-04-02) Morales Zumba, Adrián Mateo; Salazar Chipantiza, Dennis Josué; Macero Méndez, Reina MaríaHypothyroidism is a disorder marked by the thyroid gland, which has insufficient activity and tends to occur during pregnancy. The risk of suffering from hypothyroidism increases as age advances, which is important to note because many women currently delay pregnancy until an older age. Hypothyroidism is evident in about 0.5% to 2.5% of pregnancies and about 8% in the general adult population. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism in pregnant women who attended the Pablo Jaramillo Crespo Foundation, period 2019-2021. The information was collected from the Hospital database, tabulated and represented through statistical tables using the IBM SPSS and Microsoft Excel applications. The results obtained revealed that the prevalence of hypothyroidism in pregnant women, who attended the “Pablo Jaramillo Crespo” Foundation Humanitarian Hospital in the period 2019-2021, was 13.6%, of these patients with a confirmed diagnosis of hypothyroidism in pregnancy 33.73 % are in an age ranging from 29 to 34 years, 18.7% have had previous spontaneous abortions and as sociodemographic data collected, 60.8% reside in the urban area, 98.2% are mestizas, 55.4% are married, and 55.4% are housewives, and 6% of them are students.
