Item Análisis de la comunicación intercultural: caso de los estadounidenses que residen en Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-09-24) Orellana Ballesteros, Aixa Rocio; Moncada Albarracin, Mishel Karolina; Zavala Sánchez, Fabiola MayteeThe present study focuses on analyzing the impact that intercultural communication has on the adaptation processes that Americans go through when residing for an initial period of 3 years in the city of Cuenca. It is of utmost relevance to identify these processes in order to improve or adapt them to different communities that may have conflicts when relating to a culture different from the one of origin. As part of the methodology for data collection, qualitative research tools such as semi-structured interviews, focus groups and non-participant observation were used. Thanks to these tools, the main findings were: Americans seek to have a dignified old age and despite the language and dialect being their biggest barrier, they choose Cuenca as a destination city to live, thus accepting all that the city offers them, its culture, traditions and its people. In addition, it is important to understand how cultural differences, language barriers, and the process of adapting to norms and traditions influence the ability of Americans to feel fully integrated into a community. Finally, with all the information collected, certain recommendations are offered that could serve as a bases for programs and public policies that support the integration process of Americans, as well as serve as support for future research.
