Journalism was born as the need to inform society about various events that occur around the world. During journalistic coverage, communication workers face certain situations which involve risk and that may attempt their integrity. On March 26, 2018, a newspaper team of Diario El Comercio, consisting of Javier Ortega, Paúl Rivas, and Efraín Segarra, was kidnapped by a group of dissidents called Frente Oliver Sinisterra in the village of Mataje located in San Lorenzo-Esmeraldas canton. The incident occurred when the three members of El Comercio were making a new journalistic coverage about the security of the frontier after the attacks against the Ecuadorian police and military. Three weeks later, the National Government of Ecuador confirmed the murder of the newspaper team. This case is known as 'Nos Faltan 3'. This work presents the result of an in-depth investigation into the role of the journalist in the coverage of risky situations as well as the events about the kidnapping and murder of Javier, Paul, and Efrain exposed in the audiovisual documentary 'Nos Faltan 3' with the intention of generating a reflection on the journalistic work.
