This research focuses on the analysis of two propagation models often used for Digital Terrestrial Television: Okumura Hata model and ITU-R P. 1546-5 recommendation. These models are implemented in the software called RadiUC, developed in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca, which allows the use of digital elevation models and predicts the field intensity for a given area. Setting and validation of the propagation model was performed, considering results of field measurements using a Drive Test in the cities of Quito and Cuenca with the SACER system. The error between predictions of the radio model obtained with RadiUC and field measurements was estimated. With this estimate, any changes or adjustments that could be made to the propagation model were analyzed. Validation of the model fits was conducted via a statistical error analysis, contrasting with the simulation software ICS Telecom, in order to minimize the error with the field measurements. An analysis of the current situation of DTT service in Cuenca is performed by simulating current sites to evidence shaded areas. In order to improve coverage, the characteristics of the transmission system were modified obtaining significant improvements. For areas where improvements are not obtained despite the modifications, the possibility of Gap Fillers location for DTT is analyzed.
