Publication DentaLAV: A virtual platform for dental multidisciplinary learning(IEEE, 2017) Cevallos Ludeña, Cinthya María; Bravo Torres, Wilson Daniel; Gallegos Segovia, Pablo Leonidas; Bravo Torres, Jack Fernando; Vintimilla Tapia, Paúl Esteban; Alvarado Cordero, Jacinto JoséThe current deployment of information and communication technologies (ICTs), coupled with the growing development of mobile communications and miniaturized electronic devices, allows that more people access to a large amount of information. For this reason, a new social model known as the knowledge society is being developed. It is based on the capacity of each individual to transform the information they have into useful knowledge. Due this, the economy is based in technical qualities of each individual and him/her knowledge to develop several services. So, the education model must improve offering a better learning quality. With the develop of new virtual tools based in ICTs, such as virtual platforms, this goals will be achieved in any educational field. Dentistry is not indifferent to this reality, since several virtual platforms have been proposed that offer diverse multimedia resources to reinforce the contents reviewed in the classroom. However, they suggest individualized educational models that do not take into consideration the multidisciplinary work that needs to be developed in this field. For this reason, this paper proposes the development of DentaLAV, a virtual learning platform whose objective is to create multidisciplinary collaborative learning groups, giving higher education students the opportunity to train to face real dental cases.Item Ecuadorian mass media on Twitter during the 30-S(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019) Cevallos Ludeña, Cinthya María; Bravo Torres, Jack Fernando; Vintimilla Tapia, Paúl Esteban; Ordóñez Morales, Esteban Fernando; León Paredes, Gabriel Alejandro; Gallegos Segovia, Pablo LeonidasInternet and the massive deployment of mobile and wireless communication systems and devices are generating new digital environments that are drastically changing the way in which social ideas and debates are produced, accessed and disseminated. Online social networks are becoming the virtual public spheres by which the social and political events of this network society are being debated. Given this new digital and technological context, many researchers are questioning the processes of dissemination of the information generated into these virtual social structures and the validity of the traditional models of media influence in these environments. In this paper, we present the results of an empirical analysis of the dissemination of information on Twitter produced by two large Ecuadorian newspapers: 'El Universo' (private newspaper) and 'El Telégrafo' (public newspaper) during events of police insubordination on 30th September 2010. The results show that, given the restrictions imposed that day by the Ecuadorian government on the news broadcast from the private media, Twitter became on a space of diffusion and access of citizens to alternative views. In addition, it was observed that the information emitted during the 30-S by these newspapers, presented a structure of diffusion in multiple stages and multiple directions. © 2019 IEEE.Publication Implementation of a multi-environment learning/teaching platform to improve the dental education quality(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Bravo Torre, Jack Fernando; Vintimilla Tapia, Paúl Esteban; Bravo Torres, Wilson Daniel; Astudillo Ortiz, Jaime Leonardo; Cevallos Ludeña, Cinthya María; Bravo Torres, Wilson Daniel; Bravo Torres, Wilson DanielNowadays, due to the constant advance of information and communication technologies (ICTs), a new society, whose main characteristic is to globalize access to information, is being deployed. Thus, ICTs are present in all aspects of everyday life, allowing anyone to obtain content of interest at any time. In this sense, education is not alien to this reality, so new paradigms of learning/teaching are unfolding. On the one hand, students are motivated to become knowledge producers, offering learning environments equipped with tools and resources according to their preferences. On the other hand, teachers are encouraged to improve the quality of their teaching, giving work environments provided with statistical analysis tools that allow to measure student progress. For these reasons, this paper proposes the development of a multi-environment learning/teaching platform based on ICTs, aimed at improving the educational experience of students and teachers. © 2018 IEEE.Item Platform for the creation of dental case studies as a learning tool(Instituto de Ingenieros Eléctricos y Electrónicos Inc., 2019) Bravo Torres, Jack Fernando; Vintimilla Tapia, Paúl Esteban; Gallegos Segovia, Pablo Leonidas; Palacios Astudillo, Iván Andrés; Bravo Torres, Wilson Daniel; Cevallos Ludeña, Cinthya María; Bravo Torres, Jack FernandoToday, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have marked a significant change in the education and preparation of society. In this sense, several academic fields implement virtual tools that help to simulate real situations, preparing students in a better way. From a dental point of view, future professionals can be trained without compromising the health and safety of others. For this reason, this work proposes the development of a virtual platform for the creation and management of dental cases focused on postgraduate academia. With the help of learning resources such as x-rays, medical records, basic exams and a real patient's background, a specialist can create a case that will be presented to a student, in conjunction with a tutor, for resolution. Among the results obtained, it is possible to show the efficiency of this method of learning, based on the opinions of the students. © 2018 IEEE.
