Medición en tomografías de estructuras óseas craneales para determinar el dimorfismo sexual en la población Andina. Parte I
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-10-07) Ochoa Rivera, Vanessa Estefanía; Villavicencio Martínez, Henry Daniel; Cazar Almache, Marcelo Enrique
Topic: Tomography measures of cranial bone structures to determine sexual dimorphism in the Andean population. Part I. Objective: To assess in the population of the southern highlands of Ecuador if the sexual dimorphism of the metric measurements of the foramen magnum could be determined using the CBCT imaging modality. Methods: Study with a cross-sectional design, 385 CBCT images that met the selection criteria were evaluated, it was measured (LFM), Maximum length of foramen magnum, (WFM), Maximum width of foramen magnum; Area of the foramen magnum through the Routal and Teixeira formula. Results: The present study shows that using both the Routal (0.687) and Teixeira (0.688) formula, a reliability of 69% is achieved in estimating the sex of a skull. Conclusion: This study validates the digital measurement of the foramen magnum surface obtained from CBCT being a tool to be used in the definition of sex through the cranial bones. It is definitive if the values obtained are in high o low numbers, but you will need a complementary measurement with another structure when intermediate values are present.
