Item Perfil clínico y manejo de pacientes diagnosticados con colangitis aguda. Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga. Cuenca, 2016-2020(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-09-13) Toalongo León, Flavio Enrique; Villa Lojano, Susana Mercedes; Roldán Fernández, José VicenteBackground: acute cholangitis is a pathology with significant morbidity; therefore, early diagnosis and proper management are essential to reduce complications and achieve a favorable evolution and prognosis. General objective: determine the clinical profile and the management of patients diagnosed with acute cholangitis at Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga during the period 2016-2020. Methodology: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, with the medical records of 260 patients diagnosed with acute cholangitis at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during the period 2016-2020. The studied variables were: sociodemographic characteristics, clinical manifestations, hospital stay, management and treatment. The data was collected to later be tabulated and analyzed. Results: it was found that 53.85% of the patients are men, 56.92% correspond to older adults. The mean hospital stay was 11 days. 20.38% presented the Charcot triad and 3.07% showed the Reynolds pentad. The most used imaging studies were ultrasound and MRI cholangiography. Antibiotic therapy was used in 97.31% of the cases. 93.5% underwent biliary drainage and 87.65% underwent ERCP drainage. The frequency of cases in 2016-2020 period was 0.04%. Conclusions: the clinical manifestations aren’t enough for the diagnosis of acute cholangitis, so it must be supplemented with laboratory tests and imaging studies. Treatment is mainly based on biliary drainage, with by analgesia and antibiotic therapy.
