(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-01-25) Aguilar Urgilés, Karina Elizabeth; Villa Guillermo, Rosa Maribel; Guillén Verdesoto, Ximena Karina
Discrimination and exclusion towards the LGBTI community is a constant problem because being a minority group they do not fully enjoy their rights. For this reason, it is important to mention that, in Ecuador, acts of violence are evident, even threatening the life of this population, driven by their lifestyle, religious, moral, or cultural beliefs, to which each person belongs, which generates an intolerant or even homophobic society. This problem contributes to the knowledge of society, starting from the perspective of university students, which allows us to identify acceptance and respect for people with different sexual orientation; The study is based on knowing the attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors of the students, for which, it is approached from the reality that each of the individuals who are the subject of the study lives so that in this way public policies are implemented at the national level and local. The general objective is to analyze the students' perceptions about the LGBTI community; the method is quantitative, with a descriptive approach; To collect information, the survey technique is used and as an instrument, the questionnaire and the structured interview directed to the directors of the University Well-being department. With the results obtained from the study, it is evident that the students of the Social Work career respect and accept the LGBTI population.
