Item Determinación de daños en mampostería de ladrillo Panelón bajo cargas de servicio en viviendas tipo de la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-07) Suculanda Piñacela, Dennis Pablo; Vicente Quezada, Bryan Alexis; García Erazo, Hernán AlfredoThe present research work aims to determine the vulnerability of Panelón brick masonry walls under service loads. For this purpose, the results of experimental and numerical analyses of previous works were used to establish the relationship between the mechanical characteristics of Panelón brick and mortar. The study covers three distinctive cases of dwellings in the sector of Totoracocha, Cuenca, corresponding to the house/villa housing typology, which resulted in the identification of five confined masonry typologies. In addition, a damage model of these typologies was developed to characterize the affected walls, complemented with a finite element micromodeling that allowed simulating under three loading conditions. In order to identify the area’s most vulnerable to damage and, therefore, cracking, as well as the relationship between structural damage and the total capacity of the walls. To mitigate such damage, masonry reinforcement was proposed following the guidelines established by the NEC 2015, update 2023. The results obtained made it possible to compare the reinforced and unreinforced solutions, demonstrating that the implementation of reinforcements significantly improves the strength of the masonry, considerably reducing damage and, in turn, increases the capacity of the masonry to resist service loads and seismic loads. This research not only contributes to ensure the structural safety of dwellings, but also provides valuable information for the design of safer and more efficient structural elements.
