(2017) Novillo Verdugo, Miguel Ángel; Vera Cabrera, Juan Fernando
The current paper explores certain aspects of what is called “pseudoarchaeology” in Ecuador from the case study of Father Carlos Crespi. From the middle of the 20th century, several pseudoarchaeological myths came into existence in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Most of them were based upon dubious material evidence compiled by Crespi, and they included varied topics such as unknown civilizatons, gold plates, ancient contacts between Sumer and America, metallic libraries, and so on. These events generated commotion in society to the point of promoting foreign exploration campaigns to the Cuevas de los Tayos in search of said evidence. Thus, Erich von Däniken, through his literature, turned into fiction this area of the jungle, asserting that it was created by extraterrestrial beings. Although the material corpus compiled by Crespi was extensive, many of these were craftwork and handicrafts that people sold taking advantage of the priest’s old age. Additionally, said pieces disappeared in a great fire, event that encouraged, even more, the myth of Father Crespi’s treasures and the Cueva de los Tayos.

Everyday life is what we do every day. Thus, an essential element for understanding the ordinary turns out to be leisure, which is understood not as idleness, but as a time for oneself, regardless of the activities one carries out. Under this conception, leisure should be understood as the search for eternal freedom, as was seen in ancient Greece. It is indispensable, therefore, to say that leisure and work were not separated, on the contrary, work was a condition for the development of leisure. However, the capitalist logic made work separate from leisure, to make the poor poorer and the richer richer. On the other hand, in the local historiography, leisure is a secondary subject, therefore, it is indispensable to speak of a history of leisure in daily life, in this case of the urban Cuenca between 1950 and 1980. In this period, the city went through an economic crisis with the fall of the toquilla straw hat, grew in population due to strong migration and became industrialized. Then, under the documentary methodology of archive and oral history by means of interviews, a history of free time was recorded, to talk about traditional games, motor racing, cinema, theatre, football, music, television, radio and traditional festivities; at a time when craftsmanship and technology began to converge.

(2019) Novillo Verdugo, Miguel Ángel; Vera Cabrera, Juan Fernando

(2019) Herrera Montero, Luis Alberto; Novillo Verdugo, Miguel Ángel; Castellano Gil, José Manuel; Vera Cabrera, Juan Fernando
This study establishes the productive correlation between the theoretical contributions on interculturality and the proposals that have been formulated in Ecuador’s development plans. The theoretical reflection was based on fundamental contributions, understood as decolonization processes to share power, in which new ethical agreements would characterize societies and cultures. The main objective of the study was to analyze the inclusion of the intercultural theme in the National Plans for Good Living (2009-2013) (2013-2017). The methodology used, in this process of reflection and analysis, was hermeneutic, understood as interpretation and understanding of texts. As results, a broad inclusion of interculturality is detected in the plans mentioned. The problem is projected, when the inhabitants must apply these plans in the social and cultural daily life, since it contemplates contents written in highly technical languages and sophisticated epistemologies, of difficult access for the majority of the Ecuadorian citizens and, even, for professionals.
