Item Evaluación de dos razas de abejas reinas F1, Carniola y Buckfast, sobre el porcentaje de aceptación, desarrollo de crías y producción de miel(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-05-30) Méndez Abril, Mateo Andrés; Vanegas Mena, Erika Elizabeth; Galarza Álvarez, Luis RodrigoThe objective of this study was to evaluate the viability and productivity of F1 queen bees of the Carniolan and Buckfast strains in Africanized nuclei, considering queen acceptance, brood development, and honey production. The experiment was conducted at Dr. Abeja's Biological Laboratory, with 20 nuclei randomly divided into two groups: Carniolan queens and Buckfast queens. The queens were introduced by the cage method after an orphaning period of 12 to 24 hours. Acceptance was evaluated after eight days, with a rate of 90 % for Carniola and 100 % for Buckfast, with no statistically significant difference (p = 0.33). Brood development was measured for 60 days by weekly weighing. Although there were no significant differences in most weeks, Buckfast showed superior growth in weeks 6 and 7 (p = 0.02860 and p = 0.02373). Total brood was 13.06 kg of Carniola and 14.06 kg of Buckfast. Honey production was evaluated every 30 days; a significant difference was observed between the first month of Carniola and the second month of Buckfast (p = 0.019), but not in the overall results. In conclusion, both breeds showed similar levels of acceptance, brood development, and honey production, indicating that both Carniola and Buckfast are viable for implementation in Africanized nucleus bee farms.
