Item Complicaciones obstétricas en adolescentes atendidas en el servicio de obstetricia del hospital “Homero Castanier Crespo” en el periodo enero- diciembre 2008(2010) Trujillo Amoroso, Ana Cristina; Ugalde Ortega, Mónica Estefanía; Valdivieso Monteros, Diana Melissa; Ortiz Segarra, José Ignacio; Morocho Malla, Manuel Ismael; Morocho Malla, Manuel IsmaelBackground: a retrospective descriptive quantitative study took place in the obstetric department of the Homero Castanier Crespo Hospital in Azogues city 2008 data was obtained from the Statistics Department. Objective: To determine the frequency of obstetric complications in adolescents attending in the obstetric department of the Homero Castanier Crespo Hospital in 2008. Materials and Methods: all clinical histories that registered teen pregnancies in the obstetric department during 2008 were reviewed in Homero Castanier Crespo hospital. The study`s sample was obtained from these histories, and excluded those without complications. To collect data from the clinical histories, a form was filled, then the information was processed with Excel program and analyzed in SPSS program. Results: The 69.09% of pregnant teens were between 17 and 19 years (late adolescence). 65.5% came from rural areas. 43.64 hadn’t completed middle school. 40% of them are married. The main obstetric complications, were cesarean in 92 cases (41.82%), urinary tract infection represented 30.91%, the preterm labor in 10% of teen pregnancies, though preterm birth ocurred in the 2.73% of the cases; premature rupture of membranes and cefhalopelvic disproportion ocurred in 8.64%, pre-eclampse accounts for 4.55%, grade II perineal tear was made in the 1.82%. The deferred abortion with 3.64%, followed by incomplete abortion 2.73%, 2.27% complete abortion, threatened abortion accounted for 1.82%, abortion in progress at the 0.91%. There were no septic abortion and inevitable abortion. Conclusions: Teen pregnancy is very common in our society especially in rural population, most of these teenagers were married and with an incomplete middle school. The main complication is cesarean.
