(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-20) Urgiles Coraizaca, Miriam Mariana; Espinosa Fajardo, Ana Cristina
Background: according to the World Health Organization, obesity has increased globally in the last 30 years. It has also been proven that overweight and obesity claim more lives than being underweight, due to the concomitant pathologies they entail. Objective: determine the factors associated with overweight and obesity in health personnel at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in Cuenca in the period from November 2022 to April 2023. Methods: a prospective cross-sectional analytical study will be carried out in a universe of 2016 health workers from the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, with a sample of 380 participants, for which a data collection form will be applied based on the study variables, the eating habits questionnaire and the IPAQ form. The data will be processed in the statistical programs Excel and SPSS version 20.0. Results: 65% of the participants were men; 40.5% were young adults between 31 and 40 years old. 55.3% of them had normal weight; However, a significant prevalence of overweight and obesity was found, which was 43.4%. 68.9% of the participating professionals had bad eating habits. 55.5% said they worked 8 hours; 77.1% turned out to be sedentary, 20.3% presented moderate physical activity. An association was found between obesity and overweight with poor eating habits (P = 0.00) both in Chi 2 and in the Mann Whitney U test. Conclusions: It was determined that more than half of the participating professionals had poor eating habits, worked more than 8 hours and were sedentary; An association was found between bad eating habits with obesity and overweight.
