    Influencia de los cambios tecnológicos en la transformación del espacio de cocina en las viviendas del siglo XX en Cuenca

    This graduate research project is part of wider research called Transformations of the domestic spaces and lifestyle in Cuenca during the XX and XXI centuries (TED). Great technological advancements emerged during the twentieth century, fostering large transformations on human lifestyle and eventually causing changes in the configuration of housing dwellings. In this context, kitchens have been considered among the most technologically-equipped and dynamic domestic spaces. Henceforth the main objective in this study is to analyze technologically-related changes in kitchens at Cuenca during the XX century. Digital recreations of case studies are proposed as the most suitable graphical tool to demonstrate such kitchen evolution, and timelines are employed in order to synthesize the gathered information. The methodological process involved obtaining local historical data about significant XX century houses, technology offer and cooking energy types. The selected cases were reconstructed in floor plants, cross sections and volumes; validating the information with experts and people who inhabited the selected dwellings. Ultimately this research aims to contribute in Cuenca’s historiography by enhancing the understanding of local architecture, as well as assisting in the conservation of the cultural components which constitute Cuenca as a UNESCO World Heritage city.
