Item Calidad de vida de pacientes adultos con epilepsia atendidos en el Hospital de Especialidades José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca. 2018(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020-05-19) Ochoa Vera, Alan Alfredo; Pacheco Carabajo, Luis Andrés; Toral Granda, Ana MaríaThe quality of life of patients with epilepsy is altered by the therapy received, the seizures, as well as the social environment, the emotional situation and the cognitive alterations. Objective. - To determine the quality of life of adult patients with epilepsy, who attend the medical consultation at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Materials and methods. - A descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample calculated by Fisher's formula was 104 patients. The questionnaire Quality of life in Epilepsy Inventory-31 (QUOLIE 31) was applied to each patient. The data were tabulated in the software SPSS 20 and the results are presented in frequency tables. Results. - In 104 patients 49% (n = 51) have poor quality of life; 23.1% (n = 24) regular and 27.9% (n = 29) between good and excellent. The mean of the global score confirms that the quality of life in general is bad (score 60). 48.1% are affected by the effects of medication and 54.8% are affected emotionally. Patients on monotherapy had a better score (score 68) compared to patients with two and three antiepileptic drugs (scores of 56 and 55 respectively). Conclusions. - The quality of life of most adult patients with epilepsy is poor. Of all the spheres, social relations are the least harmful and it is positively related to wellbeing. The concern to suffer a crisis is what most affects the quality of life of patients.Item Validación de un método para la detección temprana de crisis convulsivas y su aplicación en el programa Atención Integrada a las Enfermedades Prevalentes de la Infancia AIEPI(2006) Borrero Muñoz, Inés Cristina; Toral Granda, Ana María; Torres Saldaña, María Elisa; Vázquez Vázquez, Ismael Santiago; Carpio Rodas, Luis ArturoEpilepsy is a public health problem with serious biological, psychological and economic consequences, so Organaización the Pan American Health Organization PAHO and WHO Mundfial Health, together with other international organizations, have decided to incorporate the epilepsy program "Integrated Management of Childhood Illness Children" IMCI. The aim of the study is to validate the instrument will use the Surgeon General at the level of primary health care, for early detection and treatment of epilepsy in children 1-10 years old. This is a cross-sectional observational study designed to validate a procedures manual as a diagnostic tool to discriminate between children with epilepsy and children without epilepsy. The instrument was apicado in children attending the Regional Epilepsy Center, and Outpatient of "Vicente Corral Moscoso" (HVCM) Hospital in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The gold standard for calculating these measures was the clinical diagnosis of epilepsy by neurologist. The diagnostic tool sensibiliad of 95,1y demonstrated specificity 97,06para detect convlusivas crisis in the group applied, suggesting that can be effectively used by a general practitioner. The instrument seems to be reliable for diagnosing generalized seizures, but not for partial seizures which could affect the diagnostic reliability of the next step "observe and verify."
