(2017) Tigre Mendieta, Narcisa Margarita; Zamora Vélez, Paola Carolina; Palacios Madero, María Dolores
The present study was carried out with the objective of describing the prevalence of the level of depression in adolescents and analyzing the differences between the gender and the age of the participants. This research responds to the quantitative approach of the non-experimental type, with the descriptive cross-sectional design. As an evaluation instrument, the Becks Depression Inventory was used, which included socio demographic data. The sample consisted of 188 students from an urban school in the city of Cuenca, aged between 15 to 19 years of age. It contained a margin of error of 5%, a 95% confidence level and a proportion of 0,5. Among the main results it was found that 68% of the participants presented some level of depression, 41% with mild depression, followed by 17% with moderate depression and 10% with severe depression. There was no statistically significant relationship found between depression and the variables of gender and age. However, there was a relationship regarding the family typology of the participants and the presence of depressive symptomatology.
