    Prevalencia de demencia en pacientes adultos mayores atendidos en el área de clínica del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca – Ecuador 2012

    Objective: Determine the prevalence of dementia in hospitalized patients in the Clinical area from the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital during 2012, and make a description of the demographic characteristics, comorbidities and treatment they received. Methods: A quantitative descriptive research was made. The main information was collected in the medical records of all patients who were diagnosed with dementia and were treated at the clinical area in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital described during 2012. Results: We found 24 cases per 1000 older adults(2.4%) of the prevalence of dementia in older adults treated at the clinical area in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. in 2012. Elderly patients were diagnosed with dementia, most of them had Alzheimer type with 42.84%, in the age considered between 85 to 90 years old and 57.14% was female, had multiple comorbidities and didn´t received organic antidemenciales including drugs. Conclusions: Patients in the clinical area were undervalued both clinical and psychological care during. The cases found in the medical record of the total cases show a part of the cases that really should have been treated at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. Therefore future researches should be improved throughout the bio-psycho-social sphere of the patient.
