BACKGROUND: The feeding difficulties are affecting between 20 to 80% of children in the world. OBJECTIVE: This study determined the prevalence of feeding difficulties in children of 1-5 years in relation to psychomotor development in the city of Cuenca during the period of 6 months in 2013. METODOLOGY: Analytical Transversal stratified random sample (7% frequency, inference error 3%, 95% IC, plus 10% loss: n=249). We evaluated the feeding difficulties using a test and psychomotor development through scale of AIEPI. These data were tabulated and analyzed in SPSS version 15.0 program. RESULTS: 249 children are attended in medical centers which the most are males with a 52.6%, a 79.1% are maternal caregivers, a 42.97% are employees’ children. Most children have a normal psychomotor development with an 83.1%. The prevalence of feeding difficulties are a 66%, which is related to age in months and it´s a protective factor for feeding difficulty (RP: 0.78, 95% IC 0.62 to 0.99, p=0.05). Children who are workers’ sons have a risk factor for have feeding difficulty (RP: 2.40, 95% IC 1.32 to 4.36, p<0.05). Finally, there is relationship between psychomotor retardation and feeding difficulties (RP: 0.41, 95% IC 0.17 to 1.01, p= 0.04). This shows us that don’t have psychomotor retardation, is a protective factor for feeding difficulties. CONCLUSION: The results show us that we must start to evaluate the feeding difficulties with the purpose to improve children psychomotor development.
