    In the present degree work, the impact of the category of punishment in the work of Discipline and Punish by Foucault and its description in the society of the 18th and 19th centuries, the analysis of the penal system, which is where the evolution is included, will be developed. fromthe category of punishment during those centuries. The penal system itself during the 18th and 19th centuries experienced a significant change in its way of exercising power, instead ofcorrecting criminals through torture and violent public display, it was transformed and a new way of justice was created. disciplinary power that influenced the formation of the disciplinarysociety, that is, the disciplinary institutions became areas of discipline and social control wherea strict regime of norms was imposed and the behavior of the subjects was monitored, generating new disciplinary practices, methods and power technologies. These new methods of discipline were fundamentally based on the constant surveillance and normalization of thebehavior of individuals, thus reflecting a microphysics of power within society where it was sought to shape the behavior of people according to established norms.
