Análisis y propuesta de solución integral del congestionamiento vehicular de la intersección de la Av. del Ejército y Av. América de Portoviejo
(2017) Barcia Mendoza, Miguel Isidro; Tejeda Piusseaut, Eduardo
In the city of Portoviejo, located on the central coast of Ecuador, with approximately 300,000 inhabitants, vehicular traffic has been disorganized due to the increase in its car fleet, the poor road behavior of drivers, pedestrians and, little signage, and the lack of interest shown by the transit authority. This is the reason why the present document analyzes the case of perhaps one of the most important intersections and as far as congestion is concerned and that in the course of time presents progressive delays due to the increase in its volume of traffic, which is the consequence that the Service Level (LOS) is currently the most unfavorable (F) at the calculated peak hour and at other times of the day. For this purpose tools such as HCM 2000, Cal and Mayor and N. Garber and the Synchro 8 simulator have been used. The actual volumes obtained by recording two cameras were used and projected to three years and also twenty-five years.

One of the main economic activities in rural areas of Ecuador is agriculture. The transportation of their products is a determining factor when considering the undertaking of several projects of this type, given that many times, the conditions of accessibility to transportation methods by means of motorized vehicles are limited. Currently, the Company ELECAUSTRO S.A. is executing the Minas de Huascachaca Wind Project, located in the Saraguro Canton in the province of Loja. One of the commitments acquired by the company, with the surrounding communities, is to contribute to their development through the use of economic and social promotion projects, among which the improvement of the road infrastructure is included. The sector called Yunquil, located in the area of influence of the project, has favorable characteristics for the undertaking of agricultural projects, however, it does not have a road infrastructure that allows the transport of products by means of motorized vehicles, the same which is carried out by means of mules, in a journey of approximately 7 kilometers in length. The present study details the realization of the geometric design and design of the pavement structure of the access road to the sector called Yunquil, between abscissas 4+251 to 9+205 km, in the Saraguro canton of the province of Loja.

The present work of titling is part of the Inter-institutional Cooperation Agreement to carry out the “Estudios y Diseños definitivos de las vías a la cabecera Parroquial de Yúluc, Uchucay- Sumaypamba-Playas de Sumaypamba, Vía a Yunquil y Vías de la Urbanización de los Precaristas, del Cantón Saraguro, Provincia de Loja”, between the Electro Generadora del Austro, ELECAUSTRO SA Compañy, the Autonomous Decentralized Government of the Province of Loja, the Autonomous Decentralized Parish Government of San Sebastián de Yuluc, the Autonomous Decentralized Parish Government of Sumaypamba, the University of Cuenca, and, on the other hand, the Public Company from the University of Cuenca UCUENCA EP. One of the bases for signing this agreement is the main objective of this degree work "Solving access to the sector called Yunquil", because there is currently no access road to Yunquil. This, in turn, is the problem that the locals have asked the ELECAUSTRO SA Compañy, to be given a solution. ELECAUSTRO is executing the " Proyecto Eólico Minas de Huascachaca " located in the Saraguro canton of the Province of Loja and within the considerations of the project, as well as due to the social responsibility policies of the company, ELECAUSTRO has acquired several commitments with the communities, with the aim of promoting their economic and social development, among which is considered the study of a road to the sector called Yunquil, as a contribution to road infrastructure improvements and boosting the local economy. The general objective has been met, with the development of each of the specific objectives. There are three specific objectives that are each covered in a separate chapter. For example, the topographic study as results obtained the topography in detail on the basis of which the horizontal and vertical geometric design of the road is developed in the following chapter from the abscissa 0 + 000.00 km that is on the road to San Sebastián de Yúluc to the abscissa 4 + 250.00 km in the direction of the sector called Yunquil. And the last specific objective is addressed in another chapter in which based on soil laboratory tests, 3 pavement alternatives are designed. Alternative 1 has been considered a pavement structure design in 2 stages, 30cm of prepared subgrade, 15 cm of base and asphalt surface of 3 inches with a projection of 10 years. The second stage of placing 0.5 inches asphalt surface. Alternative 2 has been considered the pavement structure design of a unique, 28cm of prepared subgrade, 15 cm of base and asphalt surface of 3.5 inches with a projection of 20 years and for alternative 3 has been considered a pavement structure design in 2 stages, 27cm of prepared subgrade, 16 cm of base and a surface of D.T.S.B to protect the rolling layer with a projection of 10 years. The second stage placed a 1" asphalt surface. For each of the alternatives, the recommendation is that superficial evaluations be carried out prior to routine maintenance. Condition inventory every year, and roughness every two years. Structural evaluations, deflections at least every 4 years and asphalt seals every 3 or 4 years. In summary, the scope of this degree project is the elaboration of the basic studies of topography, soils and traffic, as well as the realization of the geometric design of the road and the pavement design

Evaluación de la capacidad resistente (CBR) en bases granulares de materiales procedentes del rio Paute
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-07-21) Tepán Vele, Xavier Jacinto; Tejeda Piusseaut, Eduardo
In road construction, pavements are composed of layers whose strength decreases with depth. The layers on which the wearing courses are laid are called "Base Course". In Ecuador, the characteristics are established in the General Specifications for the Construction of Roads and Bridges, 2002 Edition, Sections 404 and 814. During quality controls in road construction, appreciable variations are obtained in the results of granulometric tests (INEN 696), although the aggregates present continuous granulometry and remain within the granulometric limits. However, the value of the California Bearing Rate, CBR (ASTM D1833) upper than 80% obtained in the laboratory, is achieved only with a granulometric spindle. The study revealed the variations of the CBR in granular materials, depending on the granulometric composition. For this purpose, mixtures of materials were made in the laboratory (materials obtained from the crushing process), that represent the granulometric curves of Class 1B base materials (upper, intermediate, and lower limit of the granulometric range of Table 404-1.1 - MOP 2002). The results showed that the difference between the maximum unit weight values is negligible. In the CBR tests, however, there was a significant difference between the results obtained at the upper and lower granulometric gradation limits.
