    Revestimiento de muros interiores con tierra apisonada y aglomerantes: Recuperación de la técnica constructiva en el Austro ecuatoriano

    This research proposes the recovery of the traditional rammed earth technique as an interior wall finish in buildings from southern Ecuador (Austro region), with the aim of preserving ancestral knowledge and promoting sustainable construction solutions. Although this technique has historically been replaced by industrial systems, its low environmental impact, accessibility, and cultural value make it a viable alternative in the current architectural context. To achieve this, a mixed methodology was used, combining bibliographic analysis with experimental work in the field and laboratory. First, six types of soil from the region were identified through quick field and lab tests, which made it possible to select the most suitable ones based on their physical and mechanical properties. Then, different natural and synthetic binders were evaluated through compression, abrasion, and erosion resistance tests. As a result, an efficient mix design was established for use as a coating on interior walls, showing that the combination of rammed earth and binders can meet modern technical standards without losing its material authenticity. In addition, a technical manual was developed to guide its on-site application, encouraging the participation of local labor and strengthening regional building identity. This research not only confirms the relevance of the rammed earth technique today, but also opens a path toward a more conscious, sustainable architecture that remains connected to its cultural and natural context.
