    Identificación de subculturas urbanas y sus factores asociados en adolescentes de 8vo., 9no. y 10mo. año de educación básica en la Unidad Educativa Carlos Rigoberto Vintimilla. Cuenca-2014

    Background: Adolescents of our society are a group of importance to public health, due to their physical, biological and psychosocial changes, as well as their lifestyles and behaviors. Objective: To identify urban subcultures and its associated factors in adolescents of 8th, 9th and 10th graders at Carlos Rigoberto Vintimilla Institute. Cuenca 2014. Methods and Materials: A descriptive study was conducted to 194 adolescents from 8th to 10th grades of basic education, registered in the school year 2013 – 2014. A survey was made to obtain data of socio-demographics, of the familiar and psychosocial environment around teenager, as well as the characteristics of urban subcultures. The information was processed in the programs SPSS, Epi – info, Word y Excel. Results: Of 194 students, 7.7% belong to any urban subculture; this is 5.1% of the men and 2.6% of the women. Family dysfunctionality is higher in adolescents that do not belong to a subculture, 22.2% of teens have family dysfunctionality in relation those who belong with a 3.1%. In both groups, 38.2% have family residing abroad. The reasons for which they integrate into to an urban subculture are: 33.3% perceive it as being cool, 33.3% because of friendships, ideology, and 6.7% because of music and clothing. The distinguishing features most used are: shoes at 60%, hair/hairstyle at 46.7%, marks and tattoos at 26.7%, and bling-bling at 13.3%. The groups to which they belong most frequently are: Hip hop/Rappers/Break-boys 53.3% and 33.3% Reggaetoneros.
