Item Reconstrucción maxilar con implantes subperiósticos personalizados. A propósito de un caso clínico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-09-18) Guartazaca Guartazaca, Belkis Gabriela; Taipe Bautista, Diego Fabricio; Guamán Roldán, Hugo XavierIntroduction: Surgical reconstruction and subsequent rehabilitation in patients with severe atrophies or significant bone defects in the maxilla represent a complex challenge in maxillofacial surgery. In the case of patients who have undergone maxillectomies, customized subperiosteal implants emerge as an effective alternative to conventional endosseous implants. Objective: This article aims to describe the rehabilitation of a patient with a history of partial maxillectomy using customized subperiosteal implants. Case report: A 77-year-old male patient, who had undergone a partial maxillectomy and reconstruction with a scapular free flap, was rehabilitated using customized subperiosteal implants. The implants were digitally designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software and manufactured from titanium. The surgical intervention was performed under general anesthesia, with a crestal incision and the use of a positioning guide to ensure precise placement of the implants. A provisional fixed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) prosthesis was placed immediately after surgery. Conclusion: Customized subperiosteal implants are an effective solution for severe maxillary defects, offering better outcomes and shorter treatment times thanks to technological advancements in their design.
