    Prevalencia espectro bipolar y factores asociados en estudiantes de la Carrera de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca, periodo 2019

    Background: Bipolar spectrum reveals a high economic and social impact, related to suicide risk and comorbidity with substance abuse. Between 20% and 30% of cases, appear before the age of 20, where 66% of adults had symptoms before the age of 18 (5). Objective: Determine the prevalence of the bipolar spectrum and associated factors in students of the medical career of the University of Cuenca, period 2019. Methodology: It was an analytical, cross-sectional observational study in the Medical Career at the Universidad de Cuenca. The universe was 1,375 students who attended the university in 2019. A sample of 208 students were determined. For the collection of information, we used forms previously developed; whose data was processed in Excel and SPSS statistical software, where the frequencies and percentages of the different variables were studied. To determine the association with the studied factors. We used the RP with a 95% Confidence Interval, 5% error and a statistical significance of p <0.05 obtained by (chi cuadrado). Results: The age ranges were between the ages of 18 and 29 with a media of 20 years; there was a predominance of the female sex; 97.12% are single. Of the total results obtained, 93 cases of students were identified with a mild condition for mania. Conclusions: The prevalence of the bipolar spectrum in 208 students of the Medical Career of the University of Cuenca period 2019 was 1%.
