    The following written work has been elaborated as a didactic guide. This will help journalists understand the techniques and fundamental concepts that are used in acquiring future numerical data. Chapter one presents two theoretical concepts: statistics and linear trend equation. Chapter two shows how we can obtain data, graphics and predictions through the use of formulae and commands using Microsoft Excel. The method used is known as Regression which allows the obtention of the coefficients a y b from the linear trend equation. Chapter three applies a practical way, in the diverse area of journalism, the concepts, formulae and techniques presented on the former chapters. The data used in this chapter comes from public institutions and private ones from both national and international. Through these examples journalists will be able to boost their technical skills and solve everyday problems.
