Due to the existing problems in classrooms related to mechanized reading that cause low levels of reading comprehension in children, a determining factor called working memory has been found that affects this aspect. Therefore, this present degree work with monographic modality within the educational field tries to argue through bibliographic research the relationship between working memory and reading comprehension. In the first place, working memory is analyzed, its definition, characteristics, function performed by its components and how this memory system with processing and information storage capacity allows complex cognitive tasks to be carried out. Second, we start from the definitions regarding reading and its characteristics to obtain a definition of reading comprehension and mention its types, models and levels of processing. Also, the relationship between working memory and reading comprehension is analyzed, and at the same time with academic performance. In addition, information from articles, scientific journals, books and degree works will be used which allows us to conclude that working memory, by having the ability to process and store information, can influence the execution of different complex cognitive tasks as the reading comprehension for boys and girls
