Anteproyecto arquitectónico de un centro de diurno para el adulto mayor en la parroquia Ricaurte
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-26) Barreto Pintado, Boris Leonardo; Serrano Tapia, Alex Daniel
In order to receive the professional title of architect, the design of the Day Care Center for the Elderly of the Ricaurte parish was proposed in the preliminary project phase. This proposal was born through the conversations and requirements maintained by the GAD of the parish, who indicated the need to architecturally intervene in an infrastructure for the elderly of the parish, because they do not have equipment for these activities, which makes it difficult for the elderly to develop their work in the workshops held in the community. Based on the requirements of the population, the project considered the design of the following spaces: administrative and reception area, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, social-workshops, maintenance, services, parking, and other places essential for the operation of the facility. Likewise, the development of the project is divided into several stages. In the first stage, the starting point was the investigation of the needs of older adults, in addition to the behavior and quality of life in old age, additionally, a compilation of regulations and ordinances of Ecuador was prepared, which should be optimal for the design and operation of the equipment. Next, a related case study was carried out in order to obtain a much broader and deeper approach to the operation and distribution of spaces in projects of the same type. In addition, the historical and cultural background of the parish was reviewed, and at the same time, a diagnosis of the site was made, identifying the most distinguishing characteristics of the community, as well as the bioclimatic characteristics of the place where the preliminary project is to be implemented. Finally, design criteria are established, extracting the most relevant of each chapter mentioned above, also, an analysis of the bioclimatic design criteria was made, because they contribute significantly to the design, this data collection is applied and shown in the final result, through a compendium of plans and explanatory diagrams.

This work arises from the crisis in the health services currently experienced by the population of the Sayausí parish due to the population growth it has undergone in recent years. Consequently, the existing health center has been forced to adapt its facilities to constructions with larger areas but which were designed for purposes other than that of a health center. The Municipal GAD of the Cuenca Canton, in its 2022 PDOT, established the need to implement a new “B” type health facility in Sayausí, which would have the capacity to serve 10,000 to 50,000 inhabitants, therefore addressing the demand for health services in Sayausí. Previously, the Sayausí GAD designated a site where a school used to operate, which is currently unused. For the project analysis, a diagnosis was made regarding the historical and physical environment, and architectural criteria were obtained based on the analysis of national, regional, and international case studies. On the other hand, the existing regulations for health centers in Ecuador were analyzed, as well as internationally, where minimum measures and areas were reviewed, serving as a reference for developing the architectural program. Finally, the architectural design was resolved, which includes different health services that respond to the existing demand, with a design that aligns with the context.

Anteproyecto de readecuación de la Escuela Luis Cordero Crespo
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-10-12) García Angulo, Juan Andrés; García Salinas, Melissa; Serrano Tapia, Alex Daniel
The Cuenca’s Historic Center is considered one of the best preserved historic centers both nationally and internationally, this is due to the beauty of its architecture present throughout the length and breadth of its streets. Despite its beautiful buildings, there are some that do not contribute to the landscape and are considered of negative value, which according to the Ordinance for the Management and Conservation of Historical and Heritage Areas of the Canton Cuenca are areas that for various reasons lack aesthetic qualities in their conception and deteriorate the urban image of the city. Such is the case of the Luis Cordero Crespo School, located on Honorato Vasquez Street between Tomás Ordoñez and Manuel Vega, next to the civil registry of the Historic Center. This building consists of two main blocks in a state of deterioration both in its facades and in its structure, it is worth mentioning that it does not have green area patios, creating a gray visual and in poor condition. This causes a stain in the section and, therefore, in the Historic Center. The present degree project is a study of the current state of the Educational Unit and its main objective is to evaluate the current constructive state of the Luis Cordero school whose current patrimonial value, according to the direction of historical and patrimonial areas of Cuenca, is negative and we want to propose a new architectural project adaptable to its context of the Historical Center. For this purpose, the present research has different phases: fundamental concepts and regulations, analysis of case studies and diagnosis of the educational unit. The information obtained was used to create a proposal for a preliminary project that could satisfy the needs of all the users of the educational unit.

Anteproyecto de un centro cultural para la ciudad de Santa Rosa, provincia de El Oro, Ecuador
(2019-01) Bojorque Fuentes, Samantha Estefanía; Pereira Maldonado, Adilson Romario; Serrano Tapia, Alex Daniel
The city of Santa Rosa is characterized by being strategically located in the center of the province of El Oro; it concentrates numerous cultural activities that identify it at a national level. Given the cultural potential of the city and the lack of a physical space that concentrates community activities of an artistic and artisanal nature, an agreement is established with the Municipality of Santa Rosa in order to propose a cultural facility that solves this problem. For the development of the proposal, it begins by studying the theoretical terms on Culture and Cultural Centers in order to obtain a solid idea of the meaning and influence of this type of facility in a city. Then, this theoretical knowledge is integrated with a review of the context of Santa Rosa and its cultural production to generate a project according to the needs of the population. The research stage is complemented with a more specific phase, which includes a study of cultural facilities and an urban-architectural analysis of the city. Through the case studies, we know the functionality and impact of a cultural center in cities with a similar context, while the strategies that will govern the design of the future project are constructed. Once the guidelines have been established, an urban analysis of the city is carried out with the purpose of choosing the ideal site for the edification. Then, the physical and natural pre-existences are studied to be considered in the design process. The proposal lays its foundations in the research and analysis phases that allowed to determine the guidelines to be followed for its execution. The equipment has a correct connection with the city and the distribution of its spaces respects pre-existing natural elements. Thanks to the flexibility achieved, the complex can be built in stages without representing a change in the formal solution. The Cultural Center for Santa Rosa is projected as a large public space for the city through its multifunctional services, living areas and recreation spaces; which, in addition to the exhibition of the cultural material of the population, it is proposed as a meeting point and social exchange.

The present research was conducted with the objective of evaluating the technical, economic, and luminous feasibility of incorporating photoluminescent concrete into the design of urban furniture, with the purpose of enhancing pedestrian safety and the nighttime aesthetics of public spaces. The study focuses on the surface application method of the photoluminescent material known as strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, which has the ability to absorb light during the day and emit it in darkness without requiring electrical energy. Within the study, the properties of photoluminescent concrete are examined, and a series of tests and analyses are carried out to design a concrete mix proportion following the ACI 211.1 standard, ensuring compliance with strength and durability requirements. Subsequently, luminance and compressive strength tests were performed on cubic specimens, and a full-scale urban furniture prototype was fabricated to evaluate its photoluminescent behavior under controlled conditions. The results of the investigation demonstrate that the surface application of the photoluminescent material, under proper curing and application conditions, does not negatively affect the mechanical strength of the concrete and provides a visible luminous effect in total darkness. Furthermore, it is concluded that photoluminescent concrete represents an efficient, passive, and sustainable innovation for the built environment.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-11-11) Delgado Cruz, José Alberto; Serrano Tapia, Alex Daniel
At least two manners of living on water have been identified around world. These forms differ from each other mainly by theconstruction systemandtype of mobility: i) homeson stilts andii) houseboats. Thehouseboatsarealso calledfloating homesoramphibioushousing, depending on theterritorialcontextof study.Currentlythe floatinghousingis fully in forcein bothcontexts developed countries as well as developing countries. It presents a variety oftypes, building systems, materials, where creativity, cultural, technological andenvironmental conditions haveconditionedthe resultingarchitectural forms. In the local context, Babahoyopresents a traditional architecture known as ‘las balsas’. It refers to a small settlement of floating homes stationed on borders of the river. This exceptional architecture represents the evolution process of the architecture of the city and its culture. However, the whole settlement is not valued appropietely by authorities, citizens and families who live in. At the moment, these buildings have been affected by deterioration process product of time and inadequate interventions by their owners. In this sense, the present research aims to contribute to the understanding of this particular way of life, present in different contexts around the world, to study the stage of conservation and living conditions of the inhabitants who occupied ‘las balsas’, to finally, to develop a proposal to improving the main issues identified.Besides, a short content about internal environmental analysis and recommendationsis included.

Cómo plasmar un concepto en arquitectura? transdisciplinariedad entre filosofía y arquitectura
(2019) Romero Encalada, Fernando Andrés; Serrano Tapia, Alex Daniel
This research seeks to find and propose strategies that help the student, incorporate the ‘conceptual’ in a comprehensive manner in their designs. The research is developed in three chapters that aim to guide the understanding of the approach of a concept in design. The first chapter includes the philosophical basis to understand the reasoning behind the conceptual architecture; this includes Deleuze, Morin and Derrida. In the second chapter we explore how these philosophies are applied in the profession to understand the strategies, and take the matching, as a basis to apply it from a student level, analyzing Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid and Peter Eisenman. Finally, in the third chapter, strategies arise from the analysis of the philosophy of the first chapter, with themes such as multiplicity, transdisciplinarity, deconstruction and the primacy of the concept and its reinterpretation. The personal experience and strategies taken from the PNLT, help us to give dynamic and versatile way to support and facilitate the implementation of concepts in architectural design

The tourism activity around the world has great relevance and is considered an important source of economic income in various countries. At the national level, tourism occupies third place in economic income and thanks to Ecuador’s biodiversity the main attractions are conservation zones and natural areas and landscapes. Currently the Busa Lagoon is considered a protected natural area for the San Fernando canton due to its element and central attractiveness. In recent years, the number of visitors and tourists have increased as well as the infrastructure demand to meet their needs. It is in this manner that the existing equipment and services do not respond in the best way to the criteria of sustainability and its needs. Based on these needs and in order to solve them, first proposed is a system of services to the perimeter of the lagoon that integrates and connects the different zones of the area. In regards to the infrastructure, new blocks are proposed to provide basic touristic services, universal accessibility and a satisfactory stay for tourists. The different blocks and in accordance to its different applications must be conceived with criteria that comply with characteristics for the conservation of the natural and environmental conditions of the surroundings. This is to say, that they can fulfil its objective as well as tourism service but that at the same time they must not threaten nature nor its resources, taking the ecosystem and landscape as the main actor. Thus, the present work carries out a research process for the planning, design and touristic infrastructure implementation in natural conservation areas. One of the most significant studies was the approach to standards for this type of intervention and the analysis of projects in different parts of the world with similar environments in order to later obtain parameters or design guidelines adapted to this site
