(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-03-22) Carrión Paz, María Augusta; Serrano Lozano, Diana Teresa; Espinoza Figueroa, Freddy Edgar
The following research seeks to identify the role that women have in the sector rural tourism of the Miguir community based on experiences and perceptions of the inhabitants of the sector. The study had a qualitative approach with an exploratory scope through the application of in-depth interviews and participant observation. Among the main results, it has been found that, in the rural tourism sector, women have a higher accessibility to paid labor fields, although she continues to maintain the role learned by female socialization, since she develops activities that become a extension of housework. Therefore, the role assumed by women becomes normalized and inferiorized by the patriarchal vision that is preserved in societies, such as reflected in the rural community of Miguir. Keywords: gender roles, rural tourism, equity, sustainability, women.
