Item Sobrevida de los pacientes con cáncer de testículo tratados en el Instituto del Cáncer SOLCA- Cuenca en el periodo de 2005-2015(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-06-10) Sarmiento Medina, Karen Gabriela; Loza Guevara, Antonio Mateo; Andrade Galarza, Andrés FernandoBACKGROUND: Testicular cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed neoplasms in young men, being the most common age group from 30 to 39 years old. In general, it is considered that it has a high level of survival in patients compared to other types of cancer and testicular germ cell tumors are responsible for up to 95% of cases. OBJECTIVE: To determine the survival rate in patients with testicular cancer treated at the SOLCA-Cuenca Cancer Institute from 2005 to 2015 METHODOLOGY: a retrospective analytical study was carried out with 155 clinical records of patients with testicular cancer treated at the SOLCA Cancer Institute of Cuenca, from 2005 to 2015. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier estimator and the log-Rank test. Survival rates were related to sociodemographic and clinical variables. RESULTS: Young adults predominated (84.5%), of mixed ethnicity (97.4%), with fairly similar proportions of urban and rural population, as well as predominant secondary level. The 88.4% were treated less than a year after testicular cancer was diagnosed, the seminoma type predominated (58.7%) followed by the nonseminoma type (34.2%). The state I was the most frequent (56.1%). The most commonly treatment was radical orchiectomy (93.5%), often combined with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The overall survival rate was 91% and disease-free 55.5%. CONCLUSION: Overall survival depends a lot on the type of cancer and the state in which it is. Disease-free survival is affected by low educational attainment and somewhat by the advanced stage of the disease.
