    BACKGROUND: Childbirth is an important event for the family and the woman, so it must be participatory, safe and culturally accepted, that is why the state created a Guide to Care for Culturally Adequate Childbirth, in order to reduce mortality and maternal-neonatal morbidity as it is a global priority problem. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine the perceptions of health professionals about culturally appropriate delivery in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca, in the period 2017. METHODOLOGY: The present study is qualitative, it applied the theory based, the interview was used as a technique with a semi-structured survey, the information was processed through the program ATLAS ti version 7.0 and the results were analyzed according to each category with their respective appointments, codes, memos and conclusions established by researchers. RESULTS: It was evidenced the loss of the protagonist of pregnant women as they accepted the institutional rules, transforming delivery into a "medical act" leaving aside important aspects such as the right to choose the position of delivery, to have accompaniment, an interventionist medical tendency before the practice of Culturally Adequate Parturition were also evidenced, adding to this the reproduction of the hegemonic model in the doctor - patient relationship, characterized by formative and attitudinal components of supremacy and subordination, the continuation of social order of scientific and secular rationality of modern society characterized by the supremacy of science over the empirical
