    Factores de riesgo para displasia de la cadera en desarrollo en niños de 0 a 12 meses del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso enero-junio del 2013, estudio de casos y controles

    Objective: To determine on what extent risk factors, such as: family background in first degree of consanguinity, breech presentation, sex and primiparity had incidence in developmental dysplasia of the hip among children from 0 to 12 months old at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital from January to June 2013. Methodology: It was a case -control study, carried out on outpatients at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in Cuenca, Ecuador. Cases with developmental dysplasia of the Hip –DDH- and control children without dysplasia correlated on age and sex. The sample was 320 children with a relationship case/control of 1:2. Associated factors such as family background of dysplasia, breech presentation, female sex and mother´s primiparity were considered. Results: Among 320 children studied the mean age was of 7.10 months with a standard deviation of 2.7 months; the sex more prevalent was female with 72.8%; 11.3% had family background ; the 37.5% of mothers were primiparous; breech presentation was present in 3,4% . The risk factors showed the following values of Odds ratio: family background with dysplasia: OR= 4,84 (IC 95% 2,13-10.13) p= 0,000; female sex OR= 1,01 (IC 95% 0,58-1,69) p= 0,98; primiparous pregnancy type: OR= 1,59 (IC95% 0,99-2,59) p=0,059 and breech presentation OR= 3,64 (IC 95% 1,04-12,72) p= 0,03. Conclusions: In the population studied Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip is positively associated with factors such as family background and breech presentation.     In Azuay Cup deaths from traffic accidents in the last year it has risen from 8-20 per 100,000 inhabitants. Statistics that are four times higher than in developed countries located to Ecuador from one of the countries with the highest death rate from traffic accidents. The both negative social and economic impact that traffic accidents occur, not only has consequences that are due to health care costs, but to wage loss, damage to property, temporary or permanent disabilities and difficulties in the social and labor reinsertion. Alcoholism is one of the enemies, not only for the driver but also for the passerby. The statistics obtained show that drunk plays a major role in the development of a traffic accident., But the irresponsibility of drivers and pedestrians, perhaps influenced by the lack of knowledge of traffic laws, foster production a greater number of traffic accident. Moreover, although the authorities make great efforts for this social epidemic can be prevented, it can be said that if it is accompanied by an awareness of the population every effort will be considered vain

    Patologías más frecuentes en el servicio de emergencia pediátrica del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca, mayo-julio 2011

    In the data collected in the pediatric emergency service in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, in the period from May to July 2011 was known what are the 10 most frequent causes of attention that compared to the pathology registered in hospitals, in which similar studies were made, we observed in Mexico the upper respiratory tract infections, followed by accidents and poisoning, infections of the digestive tract, acute asthma, pneumonia. In Argentina the main complaint was upper respiratory tract infection, asthma attacks and bronchiolitis, trauma, gastroenteritis, pharyngitis, otitis, rash, pneumonia, fever without source. In our hospital was registered similar pathology of the upper respiratory tract, lower accidents within these registered trauma, penetrating wounds, and also gastrointestinal disorders. Objective: To determine the ten most common diseases in the pediatric emergency service in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital May-July 2011. Material and Methods: A descriptive study was made; it was based on the universe of total patients who are attending to the pediatric emergency in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital during the months May- July 2011. It was taken as reference the attentions the pediatric emergency service in 2010. They were 15,718 children. The Epiinfo program version 6.0 and SPSS version 15 was used. A total of 300 patients treated in the pediatric emergency were taken during the months of May-June and July 2011. Results: The 10 most frequent pathologies treated in the pediatric emergency service in the VCMH are: 1) ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection) with pneumonia (8.3%). 2) ARI without pneumonia (8%). 3) Stab wounds (7.3%). 4) Pharyngoamigdalitis (6.7%). 5) Mild ECT (Encefalo craneal trauma) (5.7%). 6) Inflammatory acute abdomen (4.7%). 7) UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) (4.3%). 8) Foreign body ingestion (4.3%). 9) Polytrauma (4%). 10) ADD (Acute Diarrheal Disease) without dehydration. All other diseases classified as others represent 43.3%. Conclusions: The importance of this study was to determine the most common diseases in the pediatric emergency service in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, for better information about them and thus take preventive actions necessary to achieve holistically health pediatric community in our city

    Apert syndrome also called acrocephalosyndactyly Type I is characterized by craniosynostosis , symmetric syndactyly in all four limbs , mental retardation , skin and maxillofacial disorders ; It is caused by a mutation in the gene receptor 2 fibrobroblástico growth factor expressing FGFR2 autosomal dominant (AD ) . Case report: as is the acrocephaly and syndactyly in the hands and feet of newborn male case, Capurro of 38 weeks approximately, with classical phenotypic characteristics of this syndrome is presented as is the acrocephaly and syndactyly in hands and feet
