Evaluación toxicológica de soluciones acuosas de ibuprofeno y su posible remoción utilizando biomasa residual de tallos de rosas
(2017) Saetama Guallpa, María Verónica; Vera Cabezas, Luisa Mayra
Pharmaceuticals are considered a new type of contaminants, for this reason it is important to investigate the toxic effects that they can produce in the environment, as well as to evaluate new technologies for their removal through the use of low cost and easy to obtain materials. The objective of this study was to determine the toxic effect of aqueous solutions of ibuprofen on an aquatic organism (Artemia salina) and seeds (Allium schoenoprasum L., Lactuca sativa), and to evaluate the biosorption process of Ibuprofen using rose stems. The toxicity tests were carried out by exposing the test organisms to concentrations of aqueous ibuprofen solutions of 20, 10, 5, 2, 1 and 0.5 mg L-1. The percentage of mortality for Artemia salina and the elongation of the radicle and hypocotyl for the seeds were determined. The highest mortality percentage occurred at the concentration of 20 mg L-1, the calculated LC50 was 17.56 mg L-1. A low toxic effect was present in the germination of the seeds of Allium schoenoprasum L. There was inhibition in the elongation of the radicle and hypocotyl in seeds of Allium schoenoprasum L and a stimulation effect in the elongation of the radicle and hypocotyl of the seeds of Lactuca sativa. The highest inhibition effect was presented at 1 and 20 mgL-1 and the highest stimulation at 20 mg L-1. The best parameters obtained in the hydrodynamic study in column at a pH of 4.26 were flow of 2.42 ml min-1, biosorbent mass of 7g and bed height 33.5 cm. A percentage of removal of ibuprofen of 40.49% was reached. The breakthrough curve obtained was adjusted to the mathematical models of Thomas and Dose Response, being the dose-response that best reproduced the breakthrough.
