    Aplicación del proceso de atención de enfermería en los adultos mayores con problemas crónico degenerativos hospitalizados en el área de clínica de Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo Azogues, 2014 – 2015

    Background – The implementation of Nursing Care Process for elderly people diagnosed with chronic-degenerative diseases guarantees quality care for the reason that deliberate decisions are made, as well as aimed at an objective. It is the method of the nurse’s duties that enables a deliberative focus for resolving problems that demand cognitive, theoretical and interpersonal abilities for the proper care of the needs of a human being, family and community. Research Aims – To assess the implementation of Nursing Care Process for elderly people diagnosed with chronic-degenerative diseases, admitted to Homero Castanier Hospital, located in the city of Azogues, Ecuador between 2014 and 2015 Methods – The research involved is quali-quantitative. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques have been applied. The type of study is descriptive. The research techniques used were: qualitative, focus group and quantitative through observation, interviews with the nursing staff as well as elderly patients. The instruments applied were, a focus group guide, an observation guide and an interview sheet. The ‘universe’ was integrated by 8 nurses, 6 interns and 50 elders. The data was processed using Microsoft Exel and SPSS and presented through both frequency and percentage charts. Findings – 71.4% of the nurses applied the Nursing Care Process at all times, 100% handled protocols, and 100% believed that the elders were satisfied with the results. Conclusion – The study showed that most nurses and interns apply the Nursing Care Process, which provides satisfactory results
