The Tun Tun Bucashi indigenous community, located in San Lucas parish of Loja canton, in southern Ecuador, has natural and cultural resources that generate tourist interest. However, in order to promote efficient tourism development, it is crucial to consider other conditioning factors, since the mere presence of resources is not enough. In this sense, this research analyzes the level of the community's tourist vocation with a qualitative observational approach, through the following phases: (1) focus groups were held to develop a SWOT analysis of the current situation of the territory from the perspective of tourism; (2) semi structured interviews were conducted with internal and external stakeholders to identify potentialities and limitations. Based on the results, it is concluded that the community does not have several fundamental conditioning factors for the development of community tourism, which start from a lack of knowledge in the field of tourism, poor leadership, absence of external actors and inadequate infrastructure. The absence of these key elements has led to a lack of tourism in the community, which hinders the development of tourism activities today.
