Diagnostico de endometritis subclínica en vacas lecheras
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015) Rutter, Bruno; Universidad de Cuenca; Dirección de Investigación de la Universidad de Cuenca; DIUC
Uterine diseases in the postpartum period impacts seriously reproductive efficiency. The classification by Sheldon et al. (2006) allows more easily detection and diagnose of these diseases based on the elapsed time since delivery. According to the classification of the elapsed time distinction is made between puerperal metritis which manifests between 4-10 days postpartum; clinical endometritis and pyometra seen from day 14 postpartum, and subclinical endometritis occurring at any time after completion of the histological uterine involution time (generally beyond 5-6 weeks postpartum). This presentation provides an analysis and discussion of each of these phenomena and their characteristics. Further, possible treatments that can be applied and which together have not been able to give a total solution of this pathology are discussed. It is increasingly clear that early prevention and control, particularly during the transition period, will reduce the impact of these diseases on the reproductive tract and thereby improve the reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle.

Patologías podales infecciosas y no infecciosas en vacas lecheras
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015) Rutter, Bruno; Universidad de Cuenca; Dirección de Investigación de la Universidad de Cuenca; DIUC
Lameness is one of the biggest causes of problems in the welfare of dairy cows, having different backgrounds: infectious (digital dermatitis, digital abscess); or injury caused by discontinuity in the growth of hoof horn (bleeding foot ulcer, white line disease). Risk factors that induce these conditions are multifactorial and are not always detectable. Furhter they differ depending on the facility and its prevalence/incidence. Prevention and the early detection of these pathologies reduce the economic impacts, such as the associated reduction in milk production.
