Abril 2020(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-03-03) Rodas González, Pamela Estefanía; Rosas Izquierdo, Paula Berenice; Vega Crespo, Bernardo JoséBackground: On February 29, 2020, the first case of SARS-CoV-2 occurred in Ecuador, and in March of the same year, the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. Currently there is no treatment or vaccine available in the country against the new coronavirus, so the prevention could be the best alternative to combat this virus. Objective: To identify the factors related to adherence to the use of a mask and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuenca-Ecuador. April 2020. Methodology: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out with a total of 1651 participants. The information was obtained from the database of the International Citizen Project Covid 19 (ICPCovid-19), first round. The information was processed with the SPSS V.25 program, and the analysis was performed through descriptive statistics with the use of frequencies, percentages, and measures of central tendency (quantitative variables). Results: The average age of the participants was 29.74 years old. A predominance of 60.3% was female, 66.9% single, and 58.5% higher education level. More than 91% used a mask when going outside and respected the distance of 1.5 to 2 meters. Also, a percentage greater than 99% did not go to public places, did not use public transport, and did not travel. It was found that the female gender and older adults complied with the use of a mask and social distancing. Conclusions: There is a high acceptance of prevention measures by the population of Cuenca.
