Currently, parameter data is colleced manually. This paper proposes a wireless sensor network to collect automatically water parameter related data in shrimp farms. A mesh topology was used in the network implementation. This topology increases data transmission reliability. To reduce power consumption off-the-shelf hardware modules with energy saving mode were used. Nodes were placed on floating platforms to collect and transmit water temperature data at various rates. The sensor network was tested in lab and field environments (tanks and farms). The results obtained so far are encouraging and demonstrate the possibilities of exploiting low-cost electronic hardware for smart aquaculture applications.
