Uterine diseases, especially those who are influenced by hormonal factors and are accompanied with uterine fluids, are a major cause of infertility and mortality in countries were elective spaying is optional. The present study aimed to establish a clinical – pathologic relationship in bitches (Canis lupus familiaris) with uterine problems previous ovariohysterectomy (OHE). Twenty-four bitches underwent, (12 clinically ill and 12 clinically healthy) a complete clinical examination, blood count, blood biochemistry, in addition, biological samples from ovaries and uterus were took to perform a histopathological study. Independent variables to contrast were: reproductive condition, previous hormonal treatment, age and parturition. Predominating findings were: Cystic endometrial hyperplasia, pyometra and mucometra, furthermore several types of cystic structures were located at the ovaries. As a result, it was obtained that the presence of uterine fluids was independent from age and parturition (p > 0.05) but it didn’t showed independence from previous hormonal treatment (p < 0.05). No significant differences were found in relation to reproductive condition and CEH severity grade (p > 0.05), although, statistical significance was found between hematology and the type of uterine fluid (p < 0.05). In conclusion, clinical examination wasn’t enough to confirm the presence of infected uterine fluids in the canine uterus, nevertheless, paraclinical tests could be a trustful ally to differentiate the type of fluent and without a doubt, histopathology study is an effective tool which may have us discover the underlying cause of sickness.
