Item Evaluación de la azotemia y densidad urinaria en perros diagnosticados en Clinican durante el periodo 2015 - 2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-10) Rojas Yanez, Dayanna Jamilette; Torres Cordero, Samantha Elizabeth; Carpio Alemán, Fredi MarcoAzotemia and urinary density are critical parameters in the evaluation of renal function in dogs, characterized by the increase of nitrogenous products such as creatinine in the blood, and may be indicative of a decrease in the kidney's ability to filter these wastes, indicating potential health problems. This study focuses on the evaluation of azotemia and urinary density in dogs diagnosed in “CLINICAN”. A total of 361 blood and urine samples of dogs with presumptive diagnosis of azotemia were reviewed, taking into account creatinine levels and urinary density. According to the type of azotemia, it could be determined that high crossbred dogs represented the majority of cases with a total of 310 (85.9%), highlighting a significant prevalence of renal azotemia with 155 cases (50%) in this population. Males prevailed with type of renal azotemia with 110 cases (48.67%), which also showed a proportional increase with age, being more frequent in adult dogs with 72 cases (50.7%) and geronts with 91 cases (52.9%), this finding suggests a progression of renal damage associated with aging. On the other hand, according to the stages of renal disease, stage 1 with a total of 256 cases (70.9%) is the most prevalent with greater affection in gerontic dogs and male sex which shows a high prevalence in initial stages, and as for the breed, high crossbred dogs present a higher proportion in all stages. Although trends were identified, no statistically significant association was found between race, age and sex related to the type of azotemia and stages of kidney disease according to the IRIS consensus.
