This project aims to address the shortcomings in recreational infrastructure within parishes exhibiting high rates of Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN). Em-ploying a participatory approach, the goal is to identify and rank the priorities of these communities. The initiative is a component of the broader community engagement proj-ect, “UR-GENTE. The University in Rural Areas: Towards an immediate, pertinent, and prioritized response to the needs of vulnerable parishes in the Azuay province.” It seeks to foster a swift and context-specific solution to the challenges these territories face. The majority of these communities lack the technical and financial resources necessary to implement proper community amenities, which curtails their capabilities. The initial phase will involve gathering information on the existing recre-ational infrastructure across 14 parishes: Ludo, Quingeo, El Progreso, San Rafael de Sharug, Zhagli, Chaucha, Tomebamba, Cochapata, San Cris-tóbal, Luis Galarza Orellana, and Zhidmad. This preliminary assessment will determine the zones that require immediate attention. The primary objective is to enhance current facilities and develop new projects in the most under-served areas. Data collected through surveys and on-site visits will inform a detailed analysis of the state of these recreational spaces. The outcome will be the identification of the most critical areas for intervention and the proposal of urban and architectural design solutions for their enhancement and renewal.
