    Prevalencia, conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de epilepsia en la parroquia Santa Ana de la provincia del Azuay

    A door to door survey was used to determine the prevalence, knowledge, attitude and practice of epilepsy within Santa Ana, Azuay province, Ecuador.Methods: for prevalence, 528 individuals were interviewed (population 5536) on May of 2009, the sample group was selected with the N = . We used a standard questionnaire by neurologist to do the interviewed door to door. For KAPs was processed 54 interviewed wich correspond with families of Santa Ana. Results: of the 15 (2.8%) presumptive cases, 6 (1.7%) received the diagnosis of epilepsy by the neurologist. The highest prevalence was founded between 30-39 years (39.2/1000 hab). The highest prevalence was founded in male population, 66.66%. KAPs 85.2% was heard about epilepsy, 63% know someone with this illness, 53.7% had at some time witnessed a seizure. 1.9% thinks that the cause of epilepsy is contagious. 85.2% are agree that the beast treatment is with a neurologist. The most common practice that the people use was -call the doctor-.
