Reading performances can be proven during the academic context with standardized instruments. The main objective of this research consists in analyzing the reading process of students from the fourth grade of Primary School of the Educational Institution “Pasos” in Cuenca, on the 2022 period. For this, there was a participation of 48 students, to whom the Reading Processes Evaluation Battery was applied, this being review by PROLEC-R. During the analysis, four main reading threads were considered: letter identification, lexicon, syntactic and semantic; including its respective secondary threads in precision and velocity and the reading skill. The research was made out of quantity type, descriptive, transversal cut, and the data processing was made in the statistic package SPSS V27. It was determined that the majority of students (>50%) presented a normal reading in the main and secondary threads, it was also identified an average skill in the lexicon and syntactic processes; whereas in the letter identification processes the reading skill was below average on the same or different thread. It was concluded that the reading processes in children could have shifts between its main and secondary threads to which the determination of reading skills should require a more holistic vision in its processes.
