The goal of this document is to propound a methodology for a formal instruction of the BIM technology through the development and proposal of a complementary methodological guide to the content established in the Digital Expression class. The benefits for Architecture students and professionals are shown in the optimization of time, the easiness of planning a project in an interdisciplinary manner using the software as a tool. This is achieved thanks to the fact that the BIM technology processes the existing information inside each constructive element in order to improve productivity and information management at the design and construction stages. The guide was prepared taking into consideration the guidelines and regulations established by Universidad de Cuenca, as well as its fields of application. The viability of the proposal was adapted to the optional and free-choice classes specified in the study plan from 2013; basic and advanced continuous training programs and courses managed by the Postgraduate Center endorsed by the Department of Continuing Education. The guide focused on the software Revit and ArchiCAD, because they are the most used tools in the field. Through the information gathering applied to students and professionals from Azuay, the learning gaps about BIM were made evident; And, therefore, proven that there is a need to learn the methodology. At the same time, it was necessary to implement a teaching method according to the educational process. The ADDIE methodology made it possible to identify the existing performance gaps and generate content in an optimal way to solve them. For this, the contents, evaluation tools, class activities, among others, were developed based on templates. By this process the syllables and the duration of the courses were obtained. Finally, the bases were established for the application of the guide as well as future research fields with the aim of enhancing student learning.

In order to carry out a conservation, restoration or monitoring action, heritage buildings must be analyzed from several points of view, among them we have: architectural, archaeological, historical valuation, diagnosis of injuries and causes, etc. The documents derived from these studies are classifed and gathered to form the documentation for consultation and decision making in the intervention processes. Currently, the organization of these documents presents some drawbacks, since they correspond to diferent areas of study. This makes the conservation of real estate difcult, as it is necessary to work in an interdisciplinary manner, since the processes of conservation and maintenance of heritage buildings require it. The work methodology proposed by BIM (Building Information Modeling) makes it possible to include graphic information and alphanumeric data within a single work platform, overcoming the aforementioned problems of operability. In this work, the Historical BIM (H-BIM) methodology will be validated by analyzing a heritage house in the city of Cuenca under an H-BIM approach. The information obtained will be analyzed and stored in a single digital fle that will include the 3D modeling and information in an alphanumeric database, seeking to successfully document the property and demonstrate that the methodological proposal is applicable to the Historic Center of Cuenca. In addition, a template fle will be created that will be academically useful for future studies in the research project: “World Heritage City”.
