    Prevalencia de hipoacusia en adultos mayores que acudieron al área de audiología del Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo enero 2015- enero 2020

    Hearing loss in the elderly is disabling when comprehensive care is not provided in a timely manner, which is why the prevalence of hearing loss is considered a public health problem. Hypoacusis is considered a public health problem, as it directly affects the communicative interaction with the environment, disturbing the cognitive and socioemotional functions of those who suffer from it. General objective: To determine the “Prevalence of hypoacusisin older adults who attended the audiology area of the Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo" January 2015- January2020. Methodology: A retrospective study of 1225 older adults who presented: adults who suffered of hypoacusis and came to the audiologyarea of the Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo was carried out, the data obtained was extracted from the clinical records and recorded in a data collection form that included the variables investigated, the necessary information was entered in the SPSS STATISTICS software version 15.0 where the data was analyzed. Results: Of 1225 older adults studied, the mean age was 76 years, males (58.20%) and urban area patients (67.30%) predominated. The highest prevalence of hearing loss was of mixed type (62%), moderate degree (55.70%) and bilateral extension (96%). The age predominated was 75-79 years old (9,71%). In 92.70% of the population studied there was no record of any type of treatment. Conclusion: The highest prevalence was Bilateral Moderate Mixed Hearing Loss with 37.30% corresponding to 457 older adults.
