This study analyzes from a gender perspective the influence that mothers of children with cerebral palsy have on individual, family, work, economic aspects and on the exercise of rights, taking into account the way in which care has been thought of as part of women's duty, the assignment of which is configured as a barrier to achieving gender equality. Based on the voices of women who are mothers of children with disabilities, the study presents a diversity of realities that allow us to understand how the imaginaries surrounding disability and care generate adverse scenarios, showing how the low responsibility of society, the community and the State in terms of care affects women's ability to achieve autonomy, which is key to improving their living conditions. Gender equality is an issue to achieve for societies, essential to improve living conditions, eliminate gaps and inequalities, product of the sexual division of labor that will give new guidelines to change the established roles, being fundamental to improve people's living conditions
