Mediciones comparativas para determinar la presión intraocular obtenidas por un tonómetro de rebote y un tonómetro de indentación en caninos en el Centro de Neurología y Oftalmología Veterinaria (CENOV)

The present study aims to compare the methods of IOP assessment using indentation and rebound tonometers in clinically healthy canines at the Center for Neurology and Veterinary Ophthalmology (CENOV). Sixty canines were included, grouped by sex and age. The IOP values of the right eye (PIOD) and left eye (PIOS) were analyzed with both tonometers. The mean reading with Tonovet Plus® of the PIOD was 17.90 ± 3.06 mmHg and the PIOS was 17.85 ± 3.19 mmHg. The mean pressures with the Schiotz tonometer PIOD was 16.50 ± 3.34 mmHg and the PIOS was 15.92 ± 3.03 mmHg, with no statistically significant difference for both age and sex. The results reported with the rebound tonometer 17.87 mmHg and with the Schiotz tonometer 16.21 mmHg, with a numerical difference of 1.66 mmHg between tonometers. Our study demonstrated that both tonometers can be used accurately to measure IOP in canines, as long as the correct clamping protocols and proper use of each device are followed.
