This thesis addresses the spatial and functional transformation of the PROMAS-UCUENCA building, focusing on the structural repercussions of space reconfiguration and changes in the building's use in response to increasing student enrollment demand. The research highlights how these adaptations could be inducing loads that compromise certain structural as well as non-structural elements. The central hypothesis suggests that, under the premise that the building remains within its linear elastic range, changes in the load distribution will not cause plastic deformations or significant damage, even under simulated seismic conditions; otherwise, this analysis would exceed the scope of this research. This assumption is examined through modal analysis, two cases of seismic redesign, and analysis of torsional potential. The objectives of the research include detailed mapping of spatial reconfiguration and changes in use, and the performance of seismic analyses to compare the current designs with proposals adapted to the building's current reality. This seismic analysis, supported by the use of specialized software such as ETABS, will allow a better understanding of the behavior and relevance for the seismic safety of the building. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the field of structural engineering and also provides a basis for future interventions or research in the PROMAS-UCUENCA building, ensuring its long-term viability as a safe and resilient academic space.
