(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-05-27) Quiroga Ortiz, Gabriela Belen; Rodas Vanegas, María José
Background: the perception that women feel regarding their body can affect their self-esteem and also their sexual satisfaction. Pole dancing allows you to express corporality, sexual attractiveness and self-confidence. Objectives: determine the perception of body image and sexual satisfaction in women who practice pole dancing at the Ávila Pole Sport Center, in the city of Quito, Ecuador. Methodology: qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Seven of the 25 women aged 18 to 68 who came to the center were selected by convenience. A semi-structured interview was applied until the sample was saturated, it was recorded, transcribed and studied in search of codes and categories, through the content analysis technique. Results: 7 women between 26-40 years old participated, 6 single and 1 divorced, all with a current sexual partner; the majority had a higher level of education. The following categories and subcategories were obtained: 1. Perception of body image (perceptual aspects: self-esteem, distortion of body image, lack of acceptance and shame; cognitive and affective aspects of body image: social opinion; and behavioral aspects: feminine stereotype, self-demand). 2. Sexual Satisfaction (physical aspect: corporality; emotional aspects: satisfaction with the couple's relationship, shame and overvaluation of orgasm). Conclusions: Women who practice pole dancing at the Ávila Pole Sport center have a good perception of their body image, which in turn is significantly related to adequate levels of sexual satisfaction
