Item Caracterización físico - mecánica de la madera aserrada Eucalipto (Eucalyptus globulus) comercializada en el cantón Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-06) Rojas Sigüenza, Esteban Paúl; Quezada Molina, Juan FelipeThe construction sector is continuously searching for more sustainable and efficient processes. In this context, the present thesis aims to determine the structural physical-mechanical properties of eucalyptus lumber marketed in Cuenca, Ecuador, according to the Ecuadorian Construction Standard (NEC), in order to improve its knowledge and use in the industry. An applied and experimental laboratory research was employed, using a quantitative methodology. Tests performed on Eucalyptus globulus wood revealed significant differences between the average values obtained and the JUNAC standards for properties such as static bending and compression parallel to the grain. Although the physical-mechanical properties of the wood do not completely conform to the standards, the results allow the identification of important variations in their behavior. This information is fundamental for the selection and design of construction projects, especially in social housing. The findings are key to establish the admissible efforts in structural pre-dimensioning and to promote the use of sustainable materials in the construction of safe and durable infrastructures. In addition, they highlight the potential of eucalyptus wood as a viable alternative in sustainable construction, contributing to the development of safe and efficient housing.
