    Meningitis aguda incidencia y características clínicas. Departamento de pediatría Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Periodo 1994 - 1999

    Meningitis is one of the most feared infections of the CNS, by its complications, sequelae and mortality. We conducted a retrospective study of descriptive epidemiological whose universe contiyeron all niñosasistidos in the pediatric ward of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, during the period between 1 January 1994 until 31 December 1999. The sample selected on the basis of integrating all patients who had acute meningitis diagnosis. The data collection was performed in a form containing: demographics, cllinicas manifestations, treatment, CSF characteristics and evolution. The information was processed using computerized statistical programs. 120 cases of acute meningitis, mostly bacterial etiology were found. Inportantes CSF showed alterations in all parameters and observed in treatment established in 96.67 percent of cases the use of antibiotics. Regarding the evolution of the 120 children, 69 partially recovered, 36 did so in full. And 12.5 percent represented by 15 children died
